The Nissan Murano is a solid option in the mid-size SUV class, offering a comfortable cabin, composed handling dynamics, and a solid amount of value. However, the Murano loses some appeal with a lackluster powertrain, some distracting control placements, and unremarkable cargo space. The Nissan maintains a good degree of appeal with a brand new design for the fourth generation of the Murano. For 2025, Nissan has given the Murano an extensive redesign, addressing several issues of the outgoing models. While the previous generation suffered from aging tech and bland road manners, the new Murano offers a more modern and attractive design with updated tech.
The exterior design of the Murano is attractive and somewhat futuristic, offering thin headlights and a sleek profile. While the exterior design isn’t as distinctive as the outgoing model, it offers more curb appeal. The cabin of the Murano receives a more notable update, offering an attractive and upscale design that offers plenty of soft-touch surfaces. Additionally, build quality is solid with study panels and tight gaps. While a few rivals remain a bit more upscale than the Nissan, the Murano remains remarkably plush for the class. Additionally, the Murano is exceptionally spacious and accommodating, with a generous amount of space in both rows. However, taller passengers may find the rear seats lacking in headroom. Both rows offer remarkably comfortable and supportive seating, utilizing leatherette upholstery as standard. Additionally, more premium material selections are available on the higher trim levels, with semi-aniline leather appointments reserved for the top-of-the-line Platinum trim level. The Nissan also comes well-equipped with standard features, with some of the more premium features reserved for the higher trim levels.
While the previous generation of the Murano prioritized comfort in lieu of performance, the new model offers a more agreeable mix of both. The Nissan performs well in most driving scenarios, from highway passing to navigating crowded parking lots. While the Murano isn’t particularly sporty, especially in comparison to rivals such as the Mazda CX-90, it does a good job of providing a confident driving demeanor. However, the Nissan doesn’t aim to deliver sporty performance, focusing instead to strike an agreeable middle ground. The steering is direct and body motions are nicely controlled, offering a good degree of stability and maneuverability. While the ride quality of the SUV isn’t the most plush available, the Nissan does a good job of maintaining comfort, aided in part by plush seating. The Nissan offers an attractive mix of comfort and athleticism, offering enough capabilities to remain engaging without going beyond what its new turbo-four can live up to.
The Nissan Murano has finally ditched the naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine for a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, reducing outputs and acceleration. However, more notably, the Nissan has finally ditched the CVT for a more refined nine-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel-drive remains standard on the base trim level, all-wheel drive is available and standard on all other trim levels. The turbo-four is reasonably powerful, producing 241 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, motivating the SUV from 0-60 mph in an estimated 8.0 seconds. While the previous generation offered faster acceleration, it wasn’t notable quick compared to more performance focused rivals. The Nissan Murano offers a solid fuel economy rating with both front- and all-wheel drive models earning a rating of 23 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. While the turbo-four makes a notable improvement in fuel efficiency ratings for city driving by 4 mpg, highway efficiency drops by 4 mpg.
