The Acura RDX is a good option in the compact luxury SUV class, providing a solid amount of value at an attractive price. While the RDX distinguishes itself through a generous selection of standard features, luxurious accommodations, and capable handling dynamics; it lacks the optional powertrains to compete with more performance-focused rivals. Rivals such as the BMW X3 and Porsche Macan offer better handling dynamics and are available with exceptionally potent powertrains. However, the RDX offers a higher level of luxury, with trim upgrades serving as access to more luxurious technology, features, and material selections. For 2025, Acura has given the RDX a refreshed grille design that is more in line with the rest of the lineup. Additionally, the center console has been updated with additional storage space and the wireless charging pad has been relocated. Other updates include improvements to the infotainment system, changes in options, and some minor changes in features.
The Acura RDX offers attractive and sporty styling, utilizing a large grille and ventilation ports to provide a prominent front-end design. The Acura also utilizes aggressive body lines and a sleek profile to provide a sporty appearance. While the Acura offers a good degree of curb appeal, most rivals offer a similarly sporty appearance with their unique styling. The interior of the 2025 RDX addresses one of the more notable issues with the outgoing model, decluttering the overcrowded center console. Additionally, the interior styling is attractive and the layout of the center console helps to simplify button controls. Every RDX comes with a host of standard features for safety, comfort, and convenience. The Acura RDX offers trim upgrades as access to more luxurious technology, offering smaller bumps in pricing than most rivals. The Acura stands out as a solid option for a luxury-focused compact SUV.
The RDX strikes a good balance between comfort and capabilities, delivering a good degree of athleticism without a punishing ride quality. The RDX does a good job of minimizing road imperfections, with some rougher road conditions noticeably transmitted into the cabin. Additionally, the RDX is available with adaptive dampers on the top-of-the-line A-Spec® Advance trim level, offering some improvements and allowing drivers to adjust the ride quality. While the RDX isn’t the most comfortable option in the class, most drivers will find it sufficiently comfortable. Additionally, the RDX maintains a good degree of athleticism, with Acura’s SH-AWD system offering solid cornering capabilities through torque-vectoring technology. The RDX offers a good degree of engagement with solid cornering capabilities and precise steering responses. However, the RDX is held back slightly by its braking response which can be inconsistently firm.
Every model of the RDX is powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged four-cylinder is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission system that directs power to the SH-AWD system. The RDX is reasonably quick, offering good throttle response at lower speeds and delivering a 0-60 mph of 6.2 seconds. Additionally, the RDX makes it to 100 mph in 16.9 seconds, slightly quicker than the base X3. However, while the lower trims are quicker than the base models of some rivals, the higher trims approach the performance trims of some rivals, which are significantly quicker and more capable. Additionally, the RDX can be slow to downshift, even with the paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. While the RDX lacks some refinement in terms of performance, it remains adequately sporty for the class and delivers a good degree of engagement.
