The Hyundai Venue is a good option in the subcompact SUV class, providing excellent value, an accommodating cabin, and a generous list of standard features. The Hyundai distinguishes itself for its solid utility and value, providing a low barrier to entry with an attractive starting price. However, the Venue aims to stand in as a budget-friendly value option for daily commuting through city streets, losing some appeal when compared to rivals. The Venue loses some appeal with a weak and unrefined engine, providing unremarkable passing power at highway speeds. Additionally, the Venue is exclusively offered with front-wheel-drive, losing some appeal compared to similarly priced rivals that are available with all-wheel-drive. However, the Venue does a good job at addressing its primary mission, providing a comfortable and well-equipped small SUV to tackle the challenges of navigating tight city streets. For 2025, Hyundai has carried over the Venue from the previous model year without any notable changes. However, following a mild reshuffling of trim levels and features, the Venue leaves little to be desired.

The Venue sticks to a boxy profile with unremarkable styling, delivering an exterior design that is sufficiently attractive, but far from inspiring. However, the Venue does so with intention, as sportier rivals sacrifice rear passenger and cargo space through a more aggressively sloped roofline. The cabin of the Venue is far more notable, delivering a surprisingly accommodating interior. While the Venue is one of the smallest vehicles offered on the market, it manages to offer a relatively spacious cabin. Both the front and rear seats offer ample passenger space, with comfortable and supportive seating. The Venue offers solid build quality and varying material selections. While the entry level SE trim level is a bit spartan with premium materials, the higher trim levels benefit from better material selections and additional features. Additionally, the Venue offers a relatively small gap in pricing between trim-levels, with the highest-trim starting for under $3,500 more than the entry-level model. The Hyundai Venue distinguishes itself as a practical and value-oriented option, making sacrifices in other areas, like performance and athleticism, to provide a higher degree of utility.
The Hyundai Venue focuses on delivering a practical option for daily use, and in doing so, avoids pursuing the performance objectives of some rivals. However, the Venue loses some appeal with unremarkable handling dynamics and an unpowered engine. Additionally, similarly priced rivals such as Chevrolet Trax offer a bit more performance. While ride comfort can be tricky to maintain in a subcompact SUV, the Hyundai does a good job of maintaining composure. Additionally, the seating balances cushioning and supportiveness exceptionally well. The Venue offers a much more appealing driving demeanor in city traffic, with responsive and accurate steering. Additionally, with the small proportions of the Venue, the Hyundai offers an exceptionally high degree of maneuverability. However, the Venue’s steering responses aren’t as appealing at highway speeds, requiring frequent attention to maintain your lane. The Hyundai delivers a more niche offering in the class, with driving dynamics best suited for short commutes around the city.
The performance of the Venue leaves much to be desired, but that’s where rivals step in to fill the gap. The Venue is offered with a single powertrain, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that is paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive as the sole arrangement. The four-cylinder is unremarkable, producing 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque on all models. The four-cylinder is adequate for city driving but lacks any real authority on the highway. However, the lackluster performance and lack of an all-wheel-drive option, help the SUV achieve its excellent value. The Venue aims, and succeeds, at providing a solid value option that targets those seeking an SUV with city-friendly dimensions and maneuverability. However, the Venue struggles a bit on the highway and has a harder time maintaining stability when at highway speeds. The Venue is best reserved for shorter trips, rather than long drives on the highway. The Venue offers solid fuel economy, with all models earning an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
