The Honda Pilot is a good option in the mid-size SUV class, offering agreeable driving dynamics, a spacious cabin, and competitive performance. However, the Pilot distinguishes itself for its versatility and well-rounded design, serving all needs without excelling in any particular aspect. For 2025, Honda has opted to carryover the Pilot lineup largely unchanged. The Pilot receives some trim reshuffling, with Honda discontinuing the entry LX trim level, with the Sport trim level serving as the new base model. Additionally, a new range-topping Black Edition trim level has been added to the lineup, offering unique and sporty design elements. The rest of the Honda Pilot lineup is carried over without any significant updates. The Honda remains a solid option following this year’s update, offering an attractive SUV that offers a compelling degree of versatility.
The Honda Pilot offers a similar exterior design to most of the Honda lineup, utilizing muscular styling and a boxy design. However, the exterior design of the Pilot offers far more curb appeal than the three-row SUV can deliver on, with an interior design that is more focused on comfort and utility. The cabin of the Pilot is roomy with a reasonable amount of cargo space, even with all three rows in use. The cabin offers a sleek and modern aesthetic that is similar to the rest of the Honda lineup, but is equally unremarkable when compared to some key rivals. The Honda sticks to the basics, delivering a functional dashboard layout that is intuitive and easy to use. The material quality is upscale and is bolstered by the excellent build quality. However, the higher trim levels receive very few improvements in materials, falling short of the higher price tag. The Honda instead focuses on providing a more attractive selection of features, with the more premium features reserved for the higher trim levels.
The Honda Pilot is offered with a single powertrain, a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that directs power to either the front- or all-wheel drivetrain. While the lower trim levels come with front-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel-drive available as option, the TrailSport, Elite, and Black Edition trim levels are only offered with all-wheel drive. The Honda Pilot offers similar driving dynamics on all trim levels, with some variation for the off-road oriented TrailSport trim level. The TrailSport trim level is equipped with an off-road suspension that provides additional ground clearance and delivers solid off-road capabilities. However, the TrailSport model reduces on road refinement and isn’t as impressive as some more off-road focused rivals, such as the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.
