The Nissan Rogue is a good option in the compact SUV class, offering comfort and convenience in an attractive package. Additionally, the Rogue offers a good amount of value, providing a generous selection of standard features. However, the Nissan loses some appeal with an unremarkable powertrain and dull driving dynamics. The Rogue distinguishes itself as a solid option for drivers that want a comfortable, spacious, and value-packed compact SUV. For 2025, Nissan has opted to carryover the Rogue lineup with minor changes in trim levels and features. The most notable update is the addition of a new Rock Creek edition trim level, which adds a few functional upgrades such as all-terrain tires, a hill descent control system, and a new camera system with off-road views. Additionally, ProPilot 2.1 is now available on the Nissan offering partially automated driving. Other minor updates include enhancements to the surround-view camera system. However, the rest of the lineup is carried over largely unchanged, following a refresh last year. The Nissan Rogue remains a solid option in the compact SUV class for a comfortable and well-equipped SUV that provides a good degree of utility.
The Nissan Rogue is an attractive option in the class, offering rugged styling and muscular body lines. While the Rogue isn’t the most attractive option in the class, it offers a good degree of curb appeal. The cabin of the Rogue is attractive and reasonably refined, borrowing styling cues from its Nissan siblings, the Altima and Sentra. Additionally, the Nissan does a good job of minimizing physical controls, reserving enough buttons and knobs to avoid over cluttering the infotainment system. The Nissan offers a good selection of low and higher quality materials on most trim levels, with the lower trim levels offering less premium materials. While the entry level model offers cloth seating and a plethora of plastic surfaces, most are soft-plastics and the hard-plastics are hidden from view. Additionally, higher trim levels offer more premium material selections, such as genuine leather and even quilted semi-aniline leather seating surfaces. The Rogue comes equipped with a solid list of standard features, providing desirable safety and tech features. Additionally, the Nissan is offered with several desirable package options on most trim levels.
The ride quality of the Rogue is oriented toward comfort and truly shines on long commutes and road trips. The Rogue’s suspension does a good job of minimizing vibrations and soaking up road imperfections. However, the Rogue sacrifices performance and delivers a rather boring driving experience. The Rogue exhibits unremarkable corning ability and is far from athletic. Rivals such as the Mazda CX-5 offer more driver engagement. However, the Nissan doesn’t aim to impress with athleticism, instead providing a higher degree of comfort and utility. Additionally, the new Rock Creek edition offers a bit more credibility to its rugged design, but doesn’t aim to distinguish itself as a off-roading SUV. While the Rock Creek models improves capabilities slightly, the Nissan remains a comfort focused SUV. Additionally, rivals such as the Jeep Compass deliver more notable off-roading capabilities as standard. The Rogue is a comfort-focused alternative in a class full of more capable options.
The Rogue is offered with a single powertrain: a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that makes 201 horsepower. The inline-three is paired with a CVT and either front- or all-wheel drive. While the turbocharged three-cylinder is reasonably powerful for the class, it offers unremarkable acceleration and earns a 0-60 mph time of 8.0 seconds. However, some rivals offer more potent powertrains on their higher trim levels, offering an improvement in performance. Additionally, the sole powertrain reduces appeal for the more expensive trim levels, with some similarly priced rivals offering more power and quicker acceleration. The Rogue is reasonably fuel efficient, offering an EPA estimated rating of 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway when equipped with front-wheel drive. Opting for the all-wheel drive option reduces those figures to 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.
