The Hyundai Palisade is a good option in the mid-size SUV class, offering an attractive and spacious cabin, a generous selection of standard equipment, and a surprisingly high level of luxury. However, the Palisade loses some appeal with unremarkable handling dynamics, a notable amount of wind noise, and mediocre fuel efficiency ratings. The Palisade distinguishes itself with a comfortable ride quality, a luxurious interior, and trim options that range from value-oriented to near-luxury. For 2025, Hyundai has opted to carryover the Palisade with some minor changes from the previous model year. Most notably, Hyundai has introduced a new midrange SEL Premium trim level that slots between the XRT and Limited trim levels, replacing the add-on premium package. Other minor updates includes some additional standard equipment, with the XRT trim level gaining the parking distance warning feature and a surround view camera. However, all trim levels see a slight increase in price, with the XRT receiving the most notable increase due to the additional equipment. The Palisade essentially carries over from the previous year with a bit of clarification in options. However, the Hyundai lacks a distinguishing quality, losing some appeal compared to rivals, such as the Toyota Grand Highlander, which stand out as competent alternatives with fewer flaws. However, the Hyundai Palisade is a good option in the class, offering a variety of trims that range from friendly-value value to near-luxury accommodations.
The Hyundai Palisade is an attractive option in the class, offering a rugged exterior design with attractive body lines. Additionally, a prominent front end design with muscular styling lends to a good amount of curb appeal. However, unlike similarly rugged rivals such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Hyundai doesn’t deliver on the rugged performance expected on all but the off-road focused XRT trim level. While the lower trim levels represent a value oriented option, the interior design is one of the more attractive options in the class, utilizing a functional and practical layout that is well put together. Additionally, the Hyundai retains the more practical physical controls, such as the audio and climate system controls, to avoid overworking the display. The Palisade maintains a more budget friendly appeal on lower trim levels by making sacrifices in material selections and features, with more premium selections becoming available with each trim upgrade. Additionally, the highest trim level pulls all the stops, offering Nappa leather upholstery, quilted leather door panels, and a plethora of premium features.
The Hyundai Palisade offers a smooth and comfortable ride that delivers a pleasant experience. The suspension of the SUV can handle most road imperfections with ease and does a good job of minimizing the road noise transmitted into the cabin. However, a noticeable amount of wind noise is transmitted through the doors and into the cabin at highway speeds. While the handling and steering responses of the Palisade aren’t particularly noteworthy. The Palisade handles with confidence in most situations but, as expected from an SUV, it displays minor body lean when cornering. While some rivals, such as the Mazda CX-90, stand out for their driver engagement and handling dynamics, the Palisade offers a blend of comfort and athleticism that is more than agreeable for a three-row SUV.
Every Hyundai Palisade is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The V6 provides adequate acceleration for a vehicle of this size and sufficiently motivates the SUV for most maneuvers. The V6 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and accurate shifting. However, the gearbox has some noticeable shuffling of gear rations when driving up steep hills. The Palisade also comes with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, but the gearbox offers sufficiently smooth shifts on its own. The Palisade is offered with front-wheel-drive as standard, with all-wheel-drive available as a $2,000 option on most trim levels. Only the highest “Calligraphy Night” trim level offers all-wheel-drive as standard equipment, a cost that is worked into the base price. The V6 is reasonably powerful for the class, motivating the three-row SUV from 0-60 mph in about 7.5 seconds. The EPA estimates that FWD Palisades offers an estimated fuel efficiency of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Equipping AWD slightly reduces the fuel economy to 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The fuel efficiency ratings are about average for the class and real world testing indicates the ratings to be accurate. However, aside from the mediocre gas mileage, there aren’t many negatives to be found in this Hyundai’s performance.
