The Nissan Pathfinder is a good option in the mid-size SUV class, offering a comfortable cabin, solid utility, and an agreeable ride quality. However, the Pathfinder loses some appeal with unremarkable handling dynamics and off-roading performance. Despite the shortcomings, the Nissan remains a good option in the class with a high degree of utility as a comfortable family hauler. For 2025, Nissan has opted to carryover the Pathfinder lineup mostly unchanged from the previous model year. Nissan has made the Nissan Maintenance Care plan standard on all trim levels, providing up to 3 oil changes for the first two years or 24,000 miles. Additionally, the SV and Rock Creek trim levels offer a power lift gate as standard, which was previously reserved for the SL and Platinum trim levels. The Nissan Pathfinder is a solid option in the mid-size SUV class for a comfortable family hauler that offers a high degree of utility.
The exterior design of the Pathfinder is attractive, offering rugged styling and a muscular design. While the Pathfinder lacks the performance to back up its rugged design, it offers a solid degree of curb appeal. The cabin of the Pathfinder is a bit more remarkable, offering a modern and truck-like interior design. Additionally, the Nissan does a good job of minimizing physical controls, reserving enough buttons and knobs to avoid over cluttering the infotainment system. The cabin of the Pathfinder is reasonably spacious for a three-row mid-size SUV, but the third-row can be annoying to access without the optional second-row captain’s chairs. However, the front seats feel a bit flat, reducing some appeal for longer drives. While the front seats aren’t as comfortable as they could be, passengers will find the second- and third-rows reasonably plush. Additionally, Nissan offers storage cubbies throughout the cabin. While the lower trim levels utilize less premium materials, the upper trim levels come appropriately outfitted with luxuries such as semi-aniline leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic moonroof. The Pathfinder also provides a solid list of standard features, offering several desirable safety and technology features.
The ride quality of the Pathfinder is oriented toward comfort, and so falls short on performance in many aspects. The Pathfinder offers a smooth and refined ride, minimizing cabin noise with sound-deadening elements. The Pathfinder also offers stable handling, displaying minimal body roll when cornering. However, the Pathfinder lacks driver engagement and doesn’t handle as well as rivals such as the Mazda CX-90. The Pathfinder also isn’t nearly as capable of an off-roader as its design inspires, offering unremarkable capabilities. Additionally, while a “Rock Creek Edition” off-road trim level is available, it doesn’t improve capabilities by a noteworthy degree. The Nissan faces rivals such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which offer far superior capabilities as standard. However, the suspension does a good job of providing some refinement on and off the road. The suspension also handles most road imperfections with ease, providing more on-road refinement than most rivals. However, some rivals offer more on-road refinement and do a good job at distinguishing themselves in the class.
The Nissan Pathfinder is offered with only one engine option: a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The V6 produces 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque on all trims, except the Rock Creek which cranks the V6 to produce 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. All trims pair the V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as the standard arrangement on most trims. The Rock Creek Edition is only offered with all-wheel drive whereas all other trims offer it as an option. The V6 is reasonably powerful and on-par with what competitors offer. The front-wheel drive Pathfinder makes the sprint from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The all-wheel drive models reduce the 0-60 mph by a tenth of a second to 6.6 seconds. The V6 offers an EPA-estimated fuel economy as high as 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The V6 offers an above-average fuel economy rating for the class and is one of the more fuel-efficient options. However, some four-cylinder rivals offer better fuel economy ratings.
