The Nissan Sentra is a solid option in the compact sedan class, offering an attractive design, comfortable seating, and a solid selection of standard driver-assistance features. However, the Nissan loses some appeal with an unremarkable powertrain and inspiring handling dynamics. While the Nissan falls short of the livelier performance of some rivals, it stands out as an excellent option for compact sedan that is well-priced and generously equipped with safety features. For 2025, Nissan has carried over the Sentra lineup without any notable changes. The SV trim now comes standard with NissanConnect, which provides access to Nissan’s app integration and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Additionally, Nissan now includes up to three free oil changes for two years or the first 24,000 miles. The Nissan remains a solid option in the class, and an excellent option for a value focused sedan that offers a generous amount of standard safety features while delivering on the essentials for driving.
The Nissan Sentra is an attractive option in the class, offering a sporty design and a sleek profile. However, the Sentra is offered with a single powertrain that isn’t particularly inspiring. While the Nissan isn’t as sporty as some rivals, it offers a good degree of curb appeal with an attractive front end design and sporty wheel designs on most trim levels. The cabin of the Sentra is far more remarkable, offering one of the more attractive designs in the class. While the Sentra doesn’t come close to luxury, it offers a good degree of appeal with an upright design and a functional selection of physical controls. Additionally, the Sentra does a solid job of utilizing hard- and soft-touch plastics, with the former discretely hidden away. Additionally, while all models come with cloth seats as standard, more premium materials are available as part of a Premium package, which offers a solid selection of additional features at an attractive price.
The Nissan Sentra offers a well-rounded driving experience, but isn’t particularly noteworthy. The ride quality of the Sentra is oriented toward comfort, and so, falls short on performance. The Sentra offers a good degree of composure, smoothening out most road imperfections and is aided by comfortable seats. Additionally, while there is some road noise, it isn’t particularly intrusive. The Sentra handles well with a nicely weighted steering wheel that delivers predictable maneuvers. However, rivals such as the more performance-focused Honda Civic and Mazda 3 offer more driver engagement and more communicative steering responses. While the Sentra is also available in a sportier SR trim but, besides larger wheels, offers only cosmetic improvements for the most part. Additionally, the larger wheels result in a slightly firmer ride and more road noise. While the Sentra falls short in some aspects, it comes out ahead as the better value option, starting lower than most rivals. Additionally, the Sentra aims to provide a competent and budget-friendly value option in the compact sedan class, succeeding in both aspects.
Every Nissan Sentra is powered by the same engine, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The four-cylinder engine produces 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, delivering mediocre, but adequate, performance. The four-cylinder is paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive as the sole arrangement. While the gear-less automatic simulates traditional gear changes, it’s noisy and slow compared to traditional automatics, especially when trying to pass at highway speeds. The four-cylinder provides sufficient power for most driving maneuvers and motivates the sedan from 0-60 mph in about 9 seconds. While the four-cylinder delivers competitive acceleration with the base powertrain of rivals such as the Honda Civic, it lags behind the Mazda 3. The Sentra offers solid fuel economy ratings of 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. Additionally, opting for the sportier SR trim reduces the highway rating by 2 mpg, delivering a rating of 38 mpg on the highway. While some hybrid rivals offer better fuel economy ratings, the Sentra ranks highly compared to other gas-powered rivals.
